AIDS - HIV

Figures for HIV positive people vary and depend on what statistical method is used to go from a sample to the whole population, but one thing is clear - the rate is very high. Many people believe that it is the world''s highest at 39 to 40 percent, closely followed by other countries in the region like Botswana. There is a concerted government program to distribute free anti-retrovirals and there are many education programes. One positive sign is that the rate seems to be declining slightly and this may well be the start of a trend. NGOs like NERCHA are highly effective in raising and distributing funds to needy people and providing help at all levels.
