Gambling

Gambling is almost purely confined to casinos, there are no dog or horse racing facilities in Swaziland. There are three casinos in Swaziland: the largest is at the Royal Swazi Sun in the Ezulwini Valley. Once this was the only legal gambling in the southern African sub region. The elegant hotel was built to cater to the gamblers needs with an excellent golf course. When apartheid era South Africa had its homeland policy the so called “independant states” rushed to build casinos, most notably Sun City.

This killed off the heyday of gambling at a time when Swazilands industry was growing and was able to take up the economic slack.

The Orion Hotel in Pigg’s Peak boasts a casino as does the small Nhlangano Sun Hotel. All the casinos have one-armed bandits, card games and roulette tables.
